Doomsday Vault Ready for Business on the Island of Spitsbergen (Part 1)

It’s got all the exciting elements of a science fiction novel. A seed bank as strong as a fortress built into the side of a mountain in the remote arctic wilderness built for the purpose of preserving food sources in the event of disaster. Among the specifications for the bank are dual blast-proof doors with motion sensors, two airlocks, and one-meter thick walls of steel reinforced concrete.

Built on the island of Spitsbergen in the Barents Sea near the Arctic Ocean in the country of Norway, a group of wealthy corporations has invested millions of dollars in their project named the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. The mission statement is: “So that crop diversity can be conserved for the future”.

The group of investors includes The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, Monsanto Corporation, Syngenta Foundation, and the Government of Norway. Both Monsanto Corporation (US based) and Syngenta Foundation (Swiss based) are leading agricultural companies active in the development of genetically modified plant seeds and related agricultural chemicals.

The vault is located 130 meters above sea level to ensure that the building will be safe in the event of ice caps melting in a catastrophic event. The vault entry is a narrow, triangular door comprised of cement and steel protruding out of the mountainside.

The actual storage area of the vault is located at the end of a 120-meter tunnel, which was blasted into the permafrost mountain. The vault itself consists of chambers measuring 375 square meters. Plastic boxes roughly the size of moving boxes will be stored on metal shelving. Each box will store approximately 400 samples in envelopes made of polyethylene. Each sample will contain approximately 500 seeds. Each sample will be stored in a watertight package to protect the seeds from moisture in the unlikely event of a cooling system failure.

The seed vault will house up to three million different varieties of seeds from all over the planet. In preparation for the February 26, 2008 official opening, the temperature of the sandstone rock surrounding the vault has been being lowered from the normal -5 degrees Celsius to -18 degrees Celsius by means of a special refrigeration system. There will be no full time staff necessary to operate the seed vault. It has been designed to run itself, independent of human direction.

As the official opening date draws near, seeds are beginning to arrive. Shipments been already been received from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. The seed vault is operated similarly to a safe deposit box in that ownership of the seeds is retained by the individual depositors. The seed vault will be managed and overseen by the Rome-based Global Crop Diversity Trust.

The seed vault will have the capacity to house up to 4.5 million different varieties of seeds from all over the planet. The Doomsday Vault will officially open on February 26, 2008. There will be no full time staff necessary to operate the seed vault. It has been designed to run itself independent of human direction. Svalbard will be managed and overseen by the Rome-based Global Crop Diversity Trust.

The question begs asking - Why the need for this super fortress seed bank when adequate protective measures for the earth’s seeds already exist around the world? Delving into the details of this project is an interesting undertaking.

A little background on some of these groups.

The Rockefeller Foundation has been involved in and influencing agribusiness for almost a century. Back in the 1960s the Rockefeller Foundation and two other groups joined together to create the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines. By the 1970s, the IRRI along with other Rockefeller-created research centers combined to form a global Consultive Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

CGIAR was developed carefully with several key participants. The long term goal being to turn science into the service of eugenics. Eugenics (later called genetics) is the pursuit of selective breeding of the human race. At this point, with CGIAR (The Rockefeller Foundation) now being in the position of sizable influence on global agriculture, the plan unfolds.

With Rockefeller Foundation and Ford Foundation financing, CGIAR began “educating” third world agricultural scientists in the concepts of modern agribusiness. This laid the foundation for the eventual introduction of GMO “Gene Revolution” in developing countries.

The Rockefeller Foundation was also involved in the Green Revolution of the 1940s. The Green Revolution was going to solve world hunger by targeting third world countries to help them develop their agricultural processes.

In the 1950s, we were first introduced to the term “agribusiness” as opposed to “agriculture”. The wheels were set firmly in motion to turn the production of food away from the traditional family farmer to corporate multinational control.

An essential ingredient to this plan is none other than the hybrid seed. The key to hybrid seeds is their inability to reproduce. They are designed to not multiply. Seeds were originally designed to give yields similar to the parent seeds year after year. Not so of hybrid seeds. Subsequent yields are significantly lower and of lower quality. Declining yield necessitates farmers buying seed year after year to assure high yields. The big seed companies were now in perfect control as no smaller group could produce the hybrid but them. This was the foundation of the GMO seed revolution.

The four largest plant breeders in the agribusiness world are Monsanto, DuPont, Syngenta, and Dow Chemical. Monsanto currently holds a patent (together with the US Government) for a plant “terminator” or Genetic Use Restriction Technology (GURT). The advantages of the Terminator technology are obvious. Seeds yield only one harvest. Period. This forces farmers (the third world nations) to return to the seed companies year after year to replenish their seed supplies so that they can grow food to feed their people. Within 10 years, this could create a complete monopoly for these seed companies.

Through the Green Revolution, modern agriculture technology (the use of chemical fertilizers and hybrid seeds) created a dependence on US agribusiness and chemical companies. As the years went by, problems arose from the use of chemical pesticides. Also, the lack of crop diversity stemming from hybrid seed use decreased soil fertility. The exciting initial high yields began to diminish.

Financing this agribusiness became big business. Soon the business of large loans became a necessity as farmers in the third world countries needed to pay for the massive amounts of chemical fertilizers needed to sustain their agriculture. Large land owners were able to attain loans; smaller peasants were forced to borrow from the private sector at terms that eventually put them out of business.

The Gates Foundation now enters the scene as it joins forces with the Rockefeller Foundation on a new project in Africa called The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). AGRA is filled with board members from both the Rockefeller and Gates Foundations. Africa, with its fertile soil, is the next logical target for the GMO campaign. However, the African government is leery of the GMO technology. The Rockefeller Foundation has been trying for years, unsuccessfully, to promote GMOs in Africa. Look for Monsanto to possibly have created a solution to this dilemma with a program called “Seeds of Hope”, however. They will be providing small farmers with their patented GMO seeds.

Syngenta is currently focusing on Nairobi and is developing a GMO insect-resistant maize product.

Time to put some pieces in place. The Rockefellers’ influence in agribusiness goes all the way back. Currently we have both Gates and Rockefeller joining forces in Africa to get the GMO-based agribusiness established there. The Doomsday vault has been created and is being guarded by the GMO Giants.

Previously mentioned CGIAR currently controls most of the private seed banks around the world. This amounts to more than 6.5 million varieties of seeds (about a third of which are “distinct”). Back to our quote of Mr. Kissinger from the beginning: “If you control the oil you control the country; if you control the food you control the population.” Can the development of these GMO seeds be the basis of a form of biological warfare? The basics of eugenics are eliminating undesirable bloodlines. The Rockefeller Foundation has had a distinct hand in this activity in recent history. Only time will tell if the Svalbard Global Seed Vault is the latest part of a master plan.

400 Medicinal Plants on Verge of Extinction Warn Researchers

(NaturalNews) Botanic Gardens Conservation International has warned that 400 medicinal plants around the world are at risk of extinction if current over-harvesting and deforestation practices continue.

The organization, which has member gardens in 120 different countries, surveyed more than 600 members and university experts to compile a list of threatened medicinal plants.

Among the most threatened are magnolias, with half of the world's species at risk due to deforestation. Magnolia has a 5,000-year history as a traditional Chinese medicine for cancer, dementia and heart disease.

Also at risk is the yew tree, source of the popular cancer drug paclitaxel, which is synthesized from the tree's bark. But the bark from six trees must be used to create a single dose, placing the yew at risk of over-harvesting. The medicinal properties of hoodia, a Namibian native, have also placed it at risk of over-harvest, with large quantities being "ripped from the wild," according to the report. Because the plant suppresses appetite, drug companies in search of miracle weight-loss medications are harvesting more than the species can bear.

In contrast, autumn crocus is being over-harvested mostly due to its ornamental appeal. But the plant is also a highly effective treatment for gout, and is being investigated for its leukemia-fighting abilities.

More than 50 percent of prescription drugs use chemicals originally derived from plants.

Even though many of the medicinal chemicals found in the 400 threatened plants can be synthesized in the laboratory, that does not mean the original plants no longer have medical benefit, the report emphasized. The vast majority of the five billion people on Earth still rely on traditional, plant-based medicine as their primary form of medical care.

"It is not an overstatement to say that if the precipitous decline of these species is not halted, it could destabilize the future of global healthcare," said report author Belinda Hawkins.

The U.S. government has been able to use HAARP technology to control and plan weather cycles for many years. For decades Russia has also had this same technology, which is based on the research of Nicholas Tesla. This permits governments to use droughts and flooding as ways to create famine and decrease population which is one of the key goals of the New World Order elitists who have had control of the U.S. government since at least 1913 when the Federal Reserve Banking System was implemented. This turned control of the U. S. banking system over to a network of international, powerful, private banks with strong Zionist ties. This goal had been sought since Alexander Hamilton and was attempted during the Presidencies of Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln. There is good evidence that President John F. Kennedy was trying to eliminate the Federal Reserve Banking System when he was assassinated.

Disastrous Agricultural Policies Have Damaged The Health Of U.S. Citizens

In addition, government programs for many years have been carefully directed toward lowering the quality of nutrients in the soil thus causing damage to health, shortening of lifespan and fostering more disease. Among these programs was the removal of the critical nutrient sulfur from the soil by forced implementation of the use of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium fertilizers. This was very lucrative for the large corporations making these fertilizers but it also paid big dividends for the pharmaceutical industry when health began to deteriorate. North American soil is now the most depleted of all the continents on the globe. This ill advised, but probably carefully planned, introduction of poor fertilizer has been associated with failure to provide trace minerals to the soil probably for financial reasons. Since human enzymes only work when the body contains adequate amounts of trace minerals the disappearance of zinc, magnesium, selenium, iodine, manganese etc. has led to more disease.

Selenium plays a critical role in good health as it is able to prevent malignancies and is a key nutrient which helps promote recovery from infections. Persons lacking selenium have a two fold increase in their incidence of many forms of cancer and are very vulnerable to all infections including HIV.

The Impact Of Higher Oil Prices On Food Distribution In The USA..

The rapid industrialization of China and India combined with declining oil production in several nations (Iraq, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Great Britain etc) has led to serious oil shortages and rapidly rising oil prices. Rapid construction of coal burning power plants by these two nations is now annually adding 25 more tons of mercury to the air. This will increase contamination of water and food in a significant manner.

Most of the worlds major oil suppliers are in the downward spiral of their oil production (Russia, U.S., Arabia, Indonesia). When Hugo Chavez turned some petroleum engineering positions over to military cronies Venezuela suffered a 15% fall in petroleum output. There is a real possibility that more middle eastern military conflicts will eventually lead to loss of all major oil production from Iran and Arabia. Both these nations have threatened to destroy their oilfields with depleted uranium explosives if they face a changed government because of outside invaders. These explosives will make these oilfields unusable for 2 billion years i.e. that oil will be gone forever. True prophet David Eels has stated that eventually the United States will attack and conquer every Arab country in the Middle East (yet to be attacked are Iran, Jordan, Syria and Saudi Arabia).

Higher oil prices may ultimately lead to collapse in the delivery of food to supermarkets in major cities. Most supermarkets have very tight control over their inventory. Should replacement food and produce fail to be delivered they are emptied of all inventory in 3 to 7 days. Food riots in major cities might provide a good excuse to implement martial law which only requires a stroke of President Bush’s pen.

GMO Foods Cause Diseases And Are Unsafe To Eat

One of the very dangerous programs that has been instituted in the United States without any valid research is genetically modified food GMO. Huge changes in our food have been made by this new technology. A piece of DNA can be taken from one plant and spliced into the DNA of another plant. Even more alarming, DNA can now be transplanted into different species. Human beings are currently being exposed to new foods from plants containing pieces of DNA from bacteria, viruses, fungi and plants such as petunias. Naturally the incidence of allergic reactions to these foreign strange foods is rapidly rising. World famous geneticist Dr. Mae-Wan Ho states that the insertion of foreign genes into the host gene pool has long been known to have many harmful effects including cancer in the recipient organism.

In the US, at least 80% of corn is now GMO. 80% of soybeans are GMO and 90% of wheat is GMO. There are no labeling laws so the consumer is unknowingly eating GMO foods. Widely disseminated into nearly every packaged food, fructose and corn syrup are certainly contaminated by large quantities of GMO corn. Corn starch, corn syrup, corn flour, corn meal, corn oil and maltodextrin (from corn) are present in numerous supermarket products. Five years ago GMO forms of rice, potatoes, squash, papaya, cotton, rapeseed (canola oil), tomatoes, peppers, garden vegetables and some fruit were already created. Surely this number of GMO foods has grown significantly since then. Remember there is no requirement to identify GMO foods when they are sold. In my opinion U.S. and Canadian wheat, corn and soy should no longer be eaten unless you are certain they are from organic non-GMO sources.

Calgene has a Flavr Savr tomato that blocks the gene that causes food to rot. When scientists fed rodents these GMO tomatoes, they refused to eat them. Farmers report that deer, raccoons, and rabbits will walk through a field of GMO corn to reach a field of conventional corn, which they continue to eat. Farmers have learned that feeding animals GMO corn will cause them to lose weight because GMO corn has a 20% lower protein content than hybrid corn. Eating genetically- engineered potatoes (lectin) caused rats to have damage to their immune systems, thymus glands, kidneys, spleens, and intestines. Chickens fed GMO corn in a 1996 study had twice as many deaths as the chickens eating conventional corn. Children in orphanages in India were supplied GMO wheat by Monsanto. The Indian government wisely decided to monitor the health of these children. Within a couple of months several children showed changes in their blood counts suspicious of early leukemia. This GMO food was immediately removed from India which lost confidence in GMO foods. My guess is that if an honest experiment were done with animals fed only GMO foods, they would lose weight and die.

The GMO soybean created by Monsanto contains genes from a virus, a soil bacterium, and a petunia plant, none of which previously had been eaten by humans. These gene additions made the plant resistant to the herbicide glyphosphate (Roundup) which can now be sprayed on fields in larger quantities than previously were safe to use. Of course, humans are now eating more glyphosphate than previously when they consume this soybean product.

The FDA states that genetic alterations may transfer new proteins from one food to another, triggering allergic reactions. Trypsin-inhibitor, a major allergen, was found to be 26.7% higher in Monsanto’s RR soybeans. A 50% increase in soy allergy occurred in 1999-2000. Soybeans are the most common GMO food and they became a top ten allergenic food for the first time. This new allergic problem almost certainly relates to GMO changes in soybeans which always were a food that needed lots of processing to become edible.

One of the most evil insidious aspects of GMO technology is the development of Terminator Seed Technology.This involves manipulation of seeds so they are unable to reproduce. Traditionally farmers retain seed from the preceding years crops to produce next years crops. When the Terminator program becomes widespread farmers will be at the mercy of Big Agra for the price of next years seed. To insure that this program has maximal financial benefit Big Agra is buying seed companies right and left.

Gene pollution lasts for an eternity. In 1994 a genetically engineered bacteria developed to aid in the production of ethanol produced residues that caused the soil to become infertile. New crops planted at this site grew to three inches and then toppled over dead.

Because pollen from GMO crops blow into other fields it will become harder to grow organic non-GMO food in the future.

All soy, corn and wheat that is not organic non-GMO should not be eaten. Nearly every patient with chronic illness has been found to be allergic to soy.

Beware of Kosher Food

My idea that kosher food was carefully inspected and could be considered safe to eat was exploded by evidence that the kosher food inspectors are approving genetically modified foods. Obviously financial interests are taking precedence over integrity about health.

Ocean Algae Are Vital To Human Health

The depleted uranium bombs and shells that have been used in Iraq twice, Bosnia, and Afghanistan create radioactive uranium dust that is carried in clouds over great distances. When this radioactive dust settles in oceans it kills the algae which are the first link in the fish food chain. This will eventually lead to loss of the commercial fishing industry as the high fuel costs to obtain skimpy yields of fish will not be warranted.

As we progress further into the end times more acid rain will be falling on crops resulting in crop failure. Persons who foresee this and construct a greenhouse will still be able to have safe edible produce by using non-hybrid seeds.

Additionally, the algae in water are the source of 80% of the oxygen in the air. As these algae become depleted there will be a slow steady decrease in oxygen levels in the air. This will certainly adversely impact persons with heart and lung disease and will make all persons more vulnerable to new diseases because of the decreased levels of oxygen circulating in our tissues.

Pesticides take 50 years to remove from soil. However, the use of EM (Effective Microorganisms) enables a grower to rapidly purify the soil by supplying the land with beneficial bacteria many of whom have photosynthetic properties. These bacteria are able to digest metals, pesticides and chemicals. This permits EM to renovate toxic waste sites.

Obviously you will need to avoid all GMO foods. Frozen food is fine until it’s shelf life expires if you have a back up generator as power supplies are certain to become unreliable. Some families may wish to add freezer space Use of more exotic grains such as spelt, buckwheat and barley should be of value in making baked goods and will provide variety to meals as long as they remain free of GMO changes.

Dried organic non-GMO fruits will be valuable. Canned tomato packed sardines will serve as a good source of omega 3 essential fatty acids and are nearly free of mercury because of their short life span. They also contain abundant nucleotides which are used to create DNA. Avoid oil packed sardines as they almost certainly will be packed in dangerous transfats. Freeze dried foods should be fine but are expensive. Buying the equipment needed to dehydrate fruit and vegetables could be a wise investment.

Organic non-GMO brown rice and beans will be good sources of nutrition. Buying the equipment to vacuum pack food should prove very worthwhile as the removal of oxygen allows these foods to last for long periods of time. Learn how to sprout as the embryo plant needs proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and oil which sprouts provide. As the New World Order implements more of it’s population depleting programs citizens who have stored food will be more likely to survive.

Understanding the Transition From Seed Corn to Biofuels

(NaturalNews) We are about to witness and experience the greatest sustained rise in grain prices seen in the last 30 years. This rise will include wheat, rice, and maize; these three comprising over 90% of all grains cultivated on the planet. Let’s do some digging to figure out what is causing this sharp increase.

The Bush Administration’s “20 in 10” program is at the root of the problem. The plan is to cut US gas consumption by 20% by the year 2010. The official PR (Public Relations) tells us that this will reduce US dependency on foreign oil producers and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Both of these claims are false.

The foundation of this plan is a large taxpayer-funded expansion of the use of biofuel (ethanol) for transportation. This plan requires the production of 35 billion gallons of ethanol per year by the year 2017. Congress has already mandated that corn ethanol must rise from 4 billion gallons in 2006 to 7.5 billion in 2012. To guarantee this, agri-Giants like David Rockefeller are providing generous incentives to farmers choosing to grow corn for ethanol rather than food. Ethanol producers receive a subsidy of 51 cents per gallon of ethanol that is provided to an oil company.

The transition from farmland being used to grow food to farmland being used to grow biofuels is being dubbed a major new growth industry. Two years ago, US farmland devoted to biofuel crops increased by 48%. Due to the attractive incentives set in place by Congress, none of this farmland has been replaced with food crops. Since 2001 alone, maize grown to produce ethanol in the US has increased by 300% and this will continue to rise. Food prices are soaring as corn and cereal grain prices are rising due to the Congress driven demand for corn to make biofuels.

A result of the attractive biofuel subsidies and the ethanol mandate is US refineries investing heavily in building new ethanol distilleries (think oil refineries) for producing ethanol. Currently, the number of ethanol distilleries under construction exceeds the number of oil refineries built in the United States over the last 25 years. Upon completion over the next few years, the demand for corn to produce ethanol is expected to double.

More than 50% of corn grown in Iowa and South Dakota went to ethanol distilleries in 2006. Farmers desperate for income after years of low corn prices are finding it hard to resist adopting the modern agribusiness practice of abandoning crop rotation to grow only soybeans and corn. This has directly impacted both soil erosion and herbicide/pesticide use. Currently in the US, over 40% of all herbicides are applied to corn.

Biofuels are being presented to us as the solution to environmental problems such as the “global warming,” among others. Hyped science and political agendas that have been used to support concern about global warming aside, biofuels provide no substantial benefits over oil. In fact, recent studies published suggest that biofuels cause more greenhouse gas emissions when the destruction of natural ecosystems is taken into consideration.

Biofuel supporters state that biofuels save up to 60% of carbon emissions. These claims are largely fraudulent. Depending on the “tester”, ethanol fuel provides little if any difference in exhaust pipe emissions on current car models. What it does have, however, is significant levels of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde emissions. Acetaldehyde is a suspected neurotoxin and has been banned as a carcinogen in California.

Recently the Massachusetts Institute of Technology published a report stating that use of corn-based ethanol instead of traditional gasoline has no impact on greenhouse gas emissions. They even went so far as to conclude that the use of biofuels will ultimately expand the use of fossil fuels because of an increased demand for fertilizer and irrigation to expand crop-growing acreage.

There are also facts about ethanol that are little known. It is highly corrosive to pipelines and fuel systems. Ethanol requires special new gas pumps. It also holds at least 30% less energy per gallon than regular gasoline. This translates directly into at least a 25% decrease in fuel economy if using the standard 85% fuel blend.

The US has been developing biofuels for over 30 years. It is becoming more and more apparent that the same groups who brought us oil inflation are now creating food inflation. This is the same cast of characters who gave us the Iraq War, the fight over oil control, GM seeds, and Terminator seeds. The same groups who raised awareness about the “problem of over-population”... these are the same groups who are now behind the world transition from food grains to biofuel grains.

The belief that we can replace our oil dependency with biofuels is becoming the most significant threat to our planet’s food supply since the creation of Genetically Modified crops. A direct result of this biofuel transition is that the world’s reserve stocks of grain have been greatly reduced over the last 7-8 years. Reserve stocks of all grains fell to an unprecedented 57 days of consumption in 2006. This resulted in world grain prices soaring 100% over the last 18 months. We have experienced a 300% rise in oil prices since the end of 2000.

The biofuel trend is not only in the US, incidentally. There is a growing global rush toward planting for biofuel. Both the EU and Brazil are becoming heavily involved. Huge crop plantations in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Paraguay are taking over forests and grasslands. In the EU, biofuels are produced using the rapeseed plant (a common animal feed). The result of this will be a world-wide rise in meat prices. The EU has set a target minimum requirement of 10% of farmland devoted to biofuel cultivation. China is also heavily involved in biofuel production and has reduced their food crop farmland as well.

The new demand for biofuel is directly linked to our plummeting grain reserve and soaring food prices. Biofuel demand is also connecting food prices to oil prices. The end result is that people are directly competing with cars for the same grains. A new era has emerged where oil and food are interchangeable commodities because just about any crop can be converted into fuel. The price of oil is now starting to set the price of food.

(NaturalNews) Is biotechnology the miracle solution necessary to fix the many problems we face in the world today - world hunger, suffering third world economies, toxic pesticides, and the damaged environment to name a few? The big seed companies are doing everything they can to make you believe this is the case. In fact, they are making claims bordering on emotional blackmail to get you to accept their new technology.

First, they would like you to believe that biotechnology is nothing new, that it is just a natural extension of plant breeding techniques that have been around forever. The big agribusiness corporations insist that genetic engineering is simply a faster and better way of improving crops over traditional methods. It is definitely true that modern biotechnology has produced varieties of plants that did not previously exist. However, the genetic compositions of these new species are new and unknown, and this could produce unpredictable outcomes in many cases.

They would also like you to believe that Genetically Modified (GM) foods are extensively researched and regulated. Here is how that works. In 1992 the FDA decided that genetically engineered foods were no different from conventional foods. Under FDA law, if a food is “Generally Regarded as Safe” (GRAS), no independent safety testing is necessary. Biotech foods have been determined to be GRAS. So, the FDA relies on the biotech companies to do their own safety testing and also to make the determination themselves whether any given product is GRAS.

Big Seed Corporations are telling us that GM crops will allow us to reduce and even eliminate toxic pesticides and fertilizers, hopefully leading us to the conclusion that GM crops are good for the environment. To date this could not be further from the truth. In fact, most of the GM crops growing today have been modified to either withstand herbicide spray or actually produce their own insecticide.

Currently, over 50% of the nation’s soybean crops are genetically modified to withstand spraying of the herbicide RoundUp. It has also been disclosed that there is currently no testing of these crops in place for increased herbicide residue. Additionally, the Environment Protection Agency went so far as to raise the allowable residue limits for RoundUp on crops.

Biotechnology is not going to help us eradicate world hunger. Obviously, world hunger is a very big concern, but food scarcity is not the root cause of starvation. According to the UN World Food Program, there is more than enough food produced in the world to feed everyone on earth a healthy diet. The reason this doesn’t occur is that nearly 800 million people do not have access to food because they can’t afford it or they cannot grow it themselves.

Biotech companies purport that GM crops will rebuild third world economies. So far, this has yet to be seen. In fact, the opposite seems to be occurring. The foundation of genetic engineering has turned the seeds themselves into “intellectual property,” so that the farmers planting the seeds don’t even technically own them. This new arrangement makes it against the law to save seeds from year to year, something commonly done in third world countries. This places farmers in the position of returning year after year to purchase seeds. Imagine what a financial burden this would create for struggling farmers. Monsanto recently brought this to a head by actually hiring private investigators to take samples of plants from fields of farmers they suspected didn’t buy their seeds. Monsanto has also encouraged neighbor to give up neighbor if planting GM seeds without paying for them is suspected.

By turning GM seeds into intellectual property, agribusiness corporations have taken another huge step toward control over the food resources and instead of eradicating world hunger, biotechnology will likely increase it by increasing dependence on the corporate seed companies.

Winning the War on Food: Sprouting Seeds and Saving Seeds

With food prices rising, the dollar falling, and the economy reeling, it is becoming increasing important that we learn how to grow a portion of our own food. The first steps are obtaining and sprouting seeds, so we'll explore those topics here.

Enzymes Are Your Friends

It may seem hard to believe, but life forms on Earth are constantly submerged in two of the most corrosive substances in the Universe: Oxygen and H2O. Seen at the microscopic level, we are dissolving like an antacid tablet in water. What keeps us alive in this highly solvent medium? It turns out that the enzymes in raw food offset the damage we sustain, reversing the aging process. A rare disease called Progeria, Hutchinson Gilford causes extreme premature aging due to lack of enzyme activity. New studies at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences link autism to reduced enzyme activity.

Though we all eventually succumb to the ravages of time and oxidation, we can slow the process by consuming living foods that are rich in enzymes. Fresh, raw foods like sprouts are among those foods containing the most enzymes, but for the healthiest and freshest sprouts it is best to grow them yourself.

Sprouting Sunflower Seeds

Most of us have tried sunflower seeds, but it's likely they were no longer alive. The ones we had were probably already shelled, dried, roasted, irradiated, salted, preserved, bagged, shipped, and stored for long periods of time, by which point every last enzyme had perished. Wouldn't it make sense to consume living seeds? Real seeds will lay dormant for many years or until activated by moisture.

After sprouting, most edible seeds such as Alfalfa, Broccoli and Radish are left in the sun for a couple of days to produce Chlorophyll (a process called Greening or Photosynthesis). Sunflower seeds are ready to eat once they sprout so they are a great first choice for sprouting. Along with containing nearly every vitamin, fresh sprouts actually produce minerals not present in the original seed through a process called transmutation, so they are an extremely cost effective form of nutrition. (Instructions for sunflower sprouts are provided at end of this article).

Seed Types

After learning to grow sprouts you may try growing sunflower greens, whole sunflowers or other vegetables. It is important to understand the main types of seeds:

* Heirloom seeds (also called Heritage seeds) will reproduce the same every generation. Most of us assume all seeds are like this.

* Hybrid seeds are the product of two unique plants and the seeds will gradually revert to the dominant parent over subsequent generations. While providing more variety, these seeds must be purchased again each season to obtain the same crop.

* Genetically Modified (GMO) seeds are patented and require a license fee and a contract to use certain pesticides. Some GMO crops are designed to produce sterile (terminator gene technology) seeds. GMO seeds mix both plant and animal matter in ways that nature never intended. Recent studies showed that GMO crops have 10% lower yields.

GMO companies like Monsanto are part of the pesticide industry and they have been aggressively buying up seed companies for the past 20 years. Corporations prefer fruits and vegetables that are picked before ripening and have tougher skin in order to survive shipping. However if given a choice, consumers prefer fruit with more delicate skin and flavor. Farmers of generations past dedicated their entire lives to producing seeds for plants that would grow well in their local area, only to have them go extinct due to commercial interests.

"Fair Trade" alliances such as CAFTA and Codex Alimentarius seek to irradiate, patent and/or genetically modify all seeds. The new Iraqi Constitution only permits farmers to plant Monsanto GMO seeds. Canada's ridiculous C-51 legislation seeks to regulate all seeds and plants as "prescribed foods" which would effectively ban seed saving. However, seeds should be regarded as treasures and seed diversification is essential if we are to withstand food viruses such as the one that caused the Great Potato Famine in Ireland in the 1840s.

Stock up on Heirloom seeds while you still can!

Recipe for Sunflower Sprouts (Note: broccoli sprouts are healthier)

* Sprouting Jar.
* Screen Lid (or cheese cloth and rubber band).
* Sprouting Sunflower seeds (food grade).
* Filtered Water (I prefer distilled).

* Fill jar about half-way with sunflower seeds.
* Add enough water to cover seeds.
* Soak seeds 1-2 hours and drain.
* Turn jar upside down and rest at an angle inside a soup pot to allow excess water to drain.
* Keep seeds in moist, dark area at room temperature 2-3 days.
* Rinse and drain seeds once each day.
* Sunflower sprouts do not grow large and are ready to eat nearly right away.
* The sprout will be about 2-3 times the size of the seed.
* To remove hull, hold the seed with one hand and tug the sprout with the other.
* Store in refrigerator and consume within 2-3 days.

The Economics of World Hunger

(NaturalNews) Food has become the new gold. Investors weary of the real-estate bubble-burst have poured millions of dollars into grain futures. This has succeeded in driving up prices even more. Now we are witnessing a global panic as nations are waging a run on our wheat harvest.

Foreign investors have begun to stockpile wheat by placing orders on U.S. grain exchanges that are two or three times larger than normal. This has led U.S. mills to place large orders in the fear that there would soon be no wheat left at all.

Asian countries have placed huge orders with little concern over how high the prices are going. Grain prices are currently rising more in one day than they have in entire years. Regardless of the price the grain is selling. People need to eat.

Food prices are causing upset worldwide. We are seeing an unprecedented wave of hunger rolling through the poorest nations of the world. Between early 2005 and early 2008 prices rose 80 percent according to the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization. So far, most of the increase is being absorbed by distributors and processors but consumers are feeling the pinch as well.

The world's food supply and demand has grown into a situation of civil turmoil. After violent riots in Port-au-Prince, Haitian Prime Minister Jacques-Édouard Alexis was forced to step down recently. At least 14 countries have had food-related violence occur recently.

To control the unrest, some countries are digging deep to increase food subsidies. The U.N. World Food Program has issued warnings of an alarming surge in hunger in areas such as North Korea and West Africa. Wheat has now begun to moderate slightly as farmers rush to plant more wheat now that profits are rising.

Analysts predict that prices may come down possibly 30 percent in the next few months. Even so, this would still leave prices up 45 percent. Prices are not expected to go back down to where they were in early 2006 so this means that the world must accept the reality of more expensive food.

Countries that have driven up the food demand are now dealing with the cost of their own success -- rising prices.

China is trying to reassure its people by announcing reserve grain holdings of 30 to 40 percent of annual production, but fears persist. There are widespread reports of grain hoarding. In India, the government recently restricted all import duties on cooking oils and banned exports of non-basmati rice. The impact in India is being felt the most among the poor.

Even in Japan, a country with a distinct aversion to genetically modified grains; manufacturers are taking a risk by importing them for use in processed foods for the first time. Inflation in the EU hit 3.6 percent in March, the highest rate since the euro was adopted almost ten years ago. Food and oil prices are mostly to blame.

Back in the U.S., consumers are reducing quality and increasing quantity if something can be purchased at a better unit price.

The root cause of price surges varies from crop to crop, but the crisis is being fueled largely by an unprecedented linkage of the food chain. A big reason for higher wheat prices is the drought in Australia.

Wheat prices are also rising because U.S. farmers have been planting less or moving their wheat to less fertile ground. This is due to the fact that they are planting more corn for biofuels. At least a fifth and possibly as much as a quarter of the U.S. 2008 corn crop will be allocated for ethanol. As food and fuel combine, it has given American farmers a huge opportunity for large profits after years of stable prices.

The global food trade never became the kind of well-organized process that made the price of manufactured goods such as electronics uniform around the world. Where food has been concerned, subsidies designed to protect farmers have distorted the real price of food globally and prevented the market from normal price adjustments as global demand has risen.

If market forces had played a larger role in food trade perhaps the world would have had more time to adjust to the gradually rising prices. As it stands now, higher food prices are here to stay.

Many of us went after Lays about MSG. They have removed it from most if not all chips. We started with the BBQ chips: "We will buy "brand x" (don't remember what we found) until you remove it from your chips. Its is no longer in their BBQ chips. We need this labeled.
